Air Fryer Cevapi

Get ready to tantalize your taste buds with this delicious and easy-to-make recipe for Air Fryer Cevapi. These flavorful Balkan sausages are traditionally grilled, but the air fryer gives them a perfectly crispy exterior while keeping them juicy on the inside. Packed with aromatic herbs and spices, this dish is a crowd-pleaser that will transport you to the streets of Southeast Europe.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground lamb
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup sparkling water
  • Olive oil, for brushing

Directions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef and lamb. Add the finely chopped onion, minced garlic, paprika, cumin, oregano, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Mix the ingredients thoroughly until well combined. If the mixture feels too wet, add breadcrumbs gradually until it reaches a manageable consistency.
  3. Slowly pour in the sparkling water and continue mixing until the mixture becomes slightly sticky. The sparkling water will help keep the cevapi moist and tender.
  4. Preheat your air fryer to 400°F for 5 minutes.
  5. Shape the meat mixture into small, finger-sized sausages, about 3-4 inches in length.
  6. Lightly brush the air fryer basket with olive oil to prevent sticking. Place the cevapi in a single layer in the basket, leaving a bit of space between each one.
  7. Cook the cevapi in the air fryer for 10-12 minutes, flipping them halfway through, until they are nicely browned and cooked through.
  8. Once cooked, remove the cevapi from the air fryer and let them rest for a few minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute and ensures maximum flavor.
  9. Serve the Air Fryer Cevapi hot with your favorite accompaniments, such as pita bread, ajvar (a roasted red pepper and eggplant spread), sour cream, chopped onions, and fresh parsley. Enjoy!

Note: You can also grill the cevapi on a barbecue or stovetop grill pan if you prefer the traditional method. Adjust the cooking time accordingly.
